Role of President

The President is both the chief fraternal officer of the Lodge and the President of the corporation. Their primary goal is to promote the fraternal operation and uphold the General Laws.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Preside at all officers’, regular, and special Lodge meetings and maintain order.
  • Appoint all standing and special committee chairmen (unless otherwise specified in the General Laws).
  • Memorize and deliver their part of the Opening and Closing ceremonies.
  • Sign checks, but never blank ones.
  • Ensure timely submission of financial reports, IRS filings (Form 990), and tax remittances.
  • Understand and enforce the General Laws of The Moose.
  • Respond promptly to all correspondence directed to them.
  • Excuse officers from meetings (as permitted under Section 35.10), and may declare offices vacant after three unexcused absences.
  • Represent the Lodge at official functions and speak knowledgeably about The Moose, Mooseheart, Moosehaven, and membership benefits.
  • Understand parliamentary procedure, including Robert’s Rules of Order.
  • Stay informed via Moose Magazine, Moose Leader, and the Moose International website.
  • Promote teamwork, harmony, and goodwill within the Lodge.
  • Work toward membership and financial growth, aiming to qualify for the Premier Lodge Award.
  • Identify new talent for future leadership roles.
  • Sign meeting minutes after Lodge approval (see Section 36.10).
  • Serve as a custodian (with the Treasurer and Administrator) of Lodge securities and valuable papers.
  • Act as the Lodge’s delegate to state/provincial association meetings and Moose International conventions—must attend all sessions and report back to the Lodge in writing.

  • Strong leadership and public speaking skills
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team
  • Familiarity with Moose International’s mission and policies
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive lodge environment
